Once upon a time...

Her Story

Jasmyn recently became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Spring of 2013 (Shout out to Supreme 19 & Beta Alpha Omega). The following year she decided to attend NARC (North Atlantic Regional Conference) in April of 2014 with her line sisters, chapter sorors and regional sorors. It was a wonderful and exciting time to be a neophyte, as they all wore every bit of paraphernalia they owned (Pink & Green as far as the eye could see)!

One of the evening events at the conference was the classic Greek Step Show. Jasmyn and a few of her line sisters all got dressed up for the event and patiently waited to see which fraternities were competing. They already knew there was no competition for their AKA step team! It turned out that the ONLY fraternity in the step show was Phi Beta Sigma. Spoiler Alert: They won!!

After the step show, Jasmyn and a few of her line sisters decided to wait in the lobby to congratulate the winners… or just meet some new friends. Justice noticed Jasmyn and made his way over to introduce himself. Jasmyn noticed Justice from his performance but appeared more focused on heading back to her hotel room to sleep (it had been a pretty long day). Before the Sigmas left, Justice asked Jasmyn for her number and she reluctantly obliged. The rest, as they say, was history…

Well... actually, Justice and Jasmyn didn’t start dating until September of 2014, but then their love story really began.

His Story

If it wasn’t for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Justice may not have met his soon to be wife. If not for stepping, he may not have even been in the same building. In addition, if Jasmyn wasn’t so outstanding and beautiful, he may not have even seen her trying to unsuccessfully blend into the fabric of the couch she sat on in the lobby. Still, he did... and the feelings he thought he felt when they first met were confirmed when she played kickball in heels on their first date.

When it came time to make it official, they were faced with a hard decision: be together but be apart. Jasmyn moved to DC to begin her Ph.D. Program at his Alma Mater, Howard University, just as he moved away to Texas to begin his Master’s Degree at University of Houston. Knowing the two-year long-distance commitment (at minimum), Justice decided Jasmyn was someone he did not want to let go. He realized he wouldn't get another chance to be with a woman like her again, so they made it work. Two years turned into three... and then four... and yet, they stayed together.

After nearly five years, Justice finally returned to the DC area. He was elated to finally be reunited with the love of his life. And in the fall of 2020, he asked her to be his wife. She said yes.

...and they lived happily ever after.
